I want to wish you all a happy Christmas. Thanks to all of you who have over the last many weeks worked hard to raise the profile of Suubi Medical centre and to help raise funding and support in any way. We are finally ready to re-open. Our new year plan is to take the clinic to the next level by providing more much needed medical care and equipping the clinic with what we need to serve the people in Busu. We are looking to complete the maternity ward and the laboratory so we can test blood for Malaria and other cases we cater for.
I was encouraged this week to meet a girl called Naiga, we looked after her a few years ago when she was 15 years old. She came to our attention after both her Mum and Dad died of HIV aids which Naiga unfortunately contracted at birth. She was very sickly and had no care. Naiga had been thrown out of school because of the stigma attached to HIV , Suubi Clinic started to support her but then she moved and we had not hard from her for 3 years and all along we thought she most likely was dead. This week Naiga came by the clinic and at fist I could not even recognise her not until she introduced her self to me.Naiga is apparently on Anti retral Virals( ARVs) she looks well and has grown into a lovely beautiful young lady.
I was impressed by her attitude towards her situation, she has accepted it and now living responsibly. Naiga has started a small business which involves her walking around 20 kilometres daily, looking for customers to buy used clothes. she however complains of the long trek she encounters on a daily basis as she could miss her regular medication schedules . she now dreams of owning a small shop she says would help to raise her much needed income to improve her general health.
People like Naiga are a real inspiration and the reason Suubi medical centre exists,” saving lives every day”.
