Volunteer

Are you a primary care physician, specialist physician, physician assistant, nurses, dental professional, teacher, builder, midwife or just someone who wants to make a difference? Come and volunteer with us!

Medical students

If you are considering a career in medicine or you are a medical student of any sort, this is a unique opportunity to get practical experience in Africa in a fascinating and stimulating rural environment.

Skilled workers

Social workers, carers for disabled children and for children with profound learning disabilities, mental illness etc are all needed as volunteers.

Volunteers work closely with professionals and staff members at Suubi Clinic, providing technical assistance, training, and (depending on the role) direct care. Overseas volunteers take assignments of 2 weeks to 12 weeks in length. If you’re looking for an experience that will gain you valuable experience whilst also be of huge benefit to local villagers then our volunteer programmes could be what you are looking for. The warm, friendly people of Busu and the villages will touch you forever.

Duration

Volunteers spend between 1 week and 4 months working with Suubi.

Our Focus

We are focused on finding simple, low-cost local resources to solve a wide variety of medical problems faced by the local community in Busu and the villages. It is important to remember that, once you have left the programme, any project with which you have been involved must be easily sustainable so that the members of the local community can continue to run it themselves.

All too often we see organisations that bring money and Western expertise to a projects like ours, only for the project to fail once the expert has left because the local people have neither been given the money nor skills to keep it going.

As a volunteer, you will be part of the team at Suubi Clinic, and it’s important for you to nurture the team spirit. You may well make some life-long friendships during your stay. Many people who have been enjoy their time so much that they have to return.

Flights and Visa

International flights are not included. On arrival at Entebbe airport, our local Suubi coordinator will arrange transport to meet you and take you to Suubi in Iganga. A volunteer visa is required for our people coming to work at Suubi Clinic – we will provide you with an Invitation from the Suubi Foundation.
